
According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the telecom subscriber base increased by 6.42 per cent from 899.86 million for the quarter ended September 2013 to 957.61million for the quarter ended September 2014. The overall teledensity increased from 73.01 per cent in July-September 2013 to 76.75 per cent in July-September 2014. As of end-September 2014, the urban subscriber base stood at 569.56 million while the rural subscriber base reached 388.05 million.
Further, the total wireless subscriber base saw a net addition of 15.28 million subscribers in July-September 2014. The wireless base increased by 6.85 per cent from 870.58 million for the quarter ended September 2013 to 930.20 million for the corresponding quarter in 2014. However, the wireline subscriber base declined by 6.41 per cent from 29.28 million to 27.41 million. Meanwhile, the total number of Internet subscribers stood at 254.40 million as of September 2014.
Further, the monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) for GSM service providers increased by 6.08 per cent from Rs 109 in July-September 2013 to Rs 116 in July-September 2014. The ARPU for CDMA operators increased by 12.25 per cent from Rs 98.22 to Rs 110 for the period under review.
The gross revenue (GR) and adjusted gross revenue (AGR) of the telecom service sector for the quarter ended September 2014 stood at Rs 624.47 billion and Rs 432.29 billion, respectively.
