The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its independent drive test (IDT) findings for the Mangaluru licensed service area (LSA) in Karnataka, covering city and highway routes during July 2025. Conducted under the supervision of the TRAI Regional Office, Bengaluru, the tests assessed real-world network performance across urban zones, institutional hubs, transport centres, high-speed corridors, and crowded pedestrian areas.

TRAI teams conducted tests across 313.2 km of city routes, 3.4 km of coastal stretches, 10 km of walk routes, and 11 hotspot locations. Technologies evaluated included 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G.

Key performance indicators (KPIs) for voice included call setup success rate (CSSR), drop call rate (DCR), mean opinion score (MOS), call silence rate, coverage, and call setup time. For data, parameters included download/upload throughput, packet drop rate, video streaming delay, latency, and jitter.

In voice services, Airtel and Reliance Jio achieved 100 per cent CSSR, while BSNL and Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) recorded 97.34 per cent and 98.26 per cent respectively. The drop call rate stood at 0.22 per cent for Airtel and Vi, 2.05 per cent for BSNL, and 0 per cent for Jio. Airtel, BSNL, Jio, and Vi reported average MOS of 4.01, 2.98, 3.93, and 4.42 respectively.

For data services, Jio led with an average download speed of 328.26 Mbps, followed by Airtel at 185.70 Mbps, Vi at 26.58 Mbps, and BSNL at 5.01 Mbps. Upload speeds averaged 36.24 Mbps for Airtel, 27.21 Mbps for Jio, 8.51 Mbps for Vi, and 4.60 Mbps for BSNL.

The assessment also included Kochi’s high-density areas such as Kakkanad, Ernakulam Junction, and Perumpilly, alongside hotspot locations like Aluva Metro Station, Cochin University, Info Park, Kochi International Airport, and Kaloor Stadium. Coastal performance was tested from Marine Drive Park to Marine Drive Jetty, while walk tests were carried out at Ernakulam South Railway Station, Fort Kochi, KSRTC Bus Stand, and Marine Drive.
