As per the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) gained 0.43 million, 3.24 million and 0.52 million wireless (mobile) subscribers respectively, while Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) lost 0.74 million subscribers month-on-month during September 2025. Meanwhile, the wireless subscriber base of Airtel, Jio and BSNL increased to 392.41 million, 482.7 million and 92.27 million respectively. In addition, Vi’s user base shrank to 202.80 million.

Besides, TRAI data showed that Airtel, BSNL, Jio and Vi gained 0.46 million, 0.30 million, 0.94 million and 0.016 million respectively in rural India for wireless. The data released by the regulator also showed that overall wireless tele-density increased marginally to 86.65 per cent in September 2025 from 86.40 per cent in August 2025.

Separately, TRAI data showed that Airtel and Jio gained 0.09 million and 0.21 million wireline users, increasing their landline user base to 10.66 million and 14.16 million respectively. Meanwhile, BSNL and Vi also saw marginal gains of 0.003 million users each.

Further, the month of September 2025 witnessed Jio and BSNL widening their wireless customer market share to 41.24 per cent and 7.88 per cent respectively, up from 41.04 per cent and 7.77 per cent respectively in the previous month. Furthermore, Vi and Airtel narrowed their customer base to 17.33 per cent and 33.53 per cent as against 17.52 per cent and 33.65 per cent in August 2025.

Furthermore, in the month of September 2025, 15.13 million subscribers submitted their requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 1,190.48 million at the end of August 2025 to 1,205.61 million at the end of September 2025, since implementation of MNP.
