As per the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio gained 0.76 million and 1.91 million wireless (mobile) subscribers respectively, while Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) lost 0.21 million and 0.30 million subscribers respectively month-on-month during June 2025. Meanwhile, the wireless subscriber base of Airtel and Jio increased to 391.01 million and 477.02 million respectively. In addition, Vi and BSNL’s user base shrank to 204.21 million and 90.46 million respectively.
Besides, TRAI data showed that Vi, Airtel, Jio and BSNL lost 0.23 million, 0.06 million, 0.29 million and 0.106 million in rural India for wireless. The data released by the regulator also showed that overall wireless tele-density decreased marginally to 86.09 per cent in June 2025 from 85.36 per cent in May 2025.
Separately, Jio and Airtel consolidated its market leadership in the wireline space in June 2025. TRAI data showed that Jio and Airtel gained 0.45 million and 0.05 million wireline users, increasing their landline user base to 14.93 million and 10.35 million respectively. Meanwhile, BSNL and Vi lost 0.02 and 0.05 million wireline users respectively.
Further, the month of June 2025 witnessed Jio and Airtel widening their wireless customer market share to 41.02 per cent and 33.62 per cent respectively, up from 40.92 per cent and 33.61 per cent respectively in the previous month. Furthermore, Vi and BSNL narrowed their customer base to 17.56 per cent and 7.78 per cent as against 17.61 per cent and 7.82 per cent respectively in May 2025.
Further, in the month of June 2025, 13.58 million subscribers submitted their requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 1,146.45 million at the end of May 2025 to 1,160.03 million at the end of June 2025, since implementation of MNP.
