As per the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio gained 1.59 million and 1.76 million subscribers respectively, while Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) lost 0.05 million and 0.02 million subscribers respectively month-on-month during February 2025. Meanwhile, the wireless subscriber base of Airtel, Jio and BSNL increased to 388.55 million, 467.58 million and 91.01 million respectively.  In addition, Vi’s user base shrank to 205.90 million against 205.92 million.

Separately, Jio consolidated its market leadership in the wireline space in February 2025. TRAI data showed that Jio gained 0.093 million wireline users, increasing its landline user base to 12.71 million. BSNL also gained 1.70 million wireline users. Meanwhile, Airtel added 0.10 million users, boosting its wireline user base to around 10.07 million.

Further, the month of February 2025 witnessed Jio and Airtel widening its customer market share to 40.52 per cent and 33.67 from 40.46 and 33.61, respectively, in the previous month. Furthermore, Vi and BSNL narrowed their customer base to 17.84 per cent and 7.89 per cent as against 17.89 per cent and 7.95 per cent respectively in January 2025.

Besides, TRAI data showed that Airtel and Jio gained 0.37 million and 0.98 million customers respectively in rural India for wireless. Meanwhile, Vi and BSNL lost 0.28 million and 0.017 million respectively in these geographies. The data released by the regulator also showed that overall wireless tele-density increased marginally to 84.85 per cent in February 2025 from 84.54 per cent in January 2025.

In the month of February 2025, 12.06 million subscribers submitted their requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 1093.33 million at the end of January 2025 to 1105.39 million at the end of February 2025, since implementation of MNP.
