As per the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) gained 3.13 million, 2.94 million and 0.05 million in wireless (mobile) subscribers respectively, while Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) added 0.07 million subscribers month-on-month during April 2026. Meanwhile, the wireless subscriber base of Airtel, Jio and Vi increased to 480.88 million, 499.28 million and 198.53 million respectively. In addition, BSNL’s user base increased to 93.01 million.
Besides, TRAI data showed that Airtel, Jio, Vi and BSNL gained 1.16 million, 0.86 million, 0.33 million and 0.02 million respectively in rural India for wireless. The data released by the regulator also showed that overall wireless tele-density increased marginally to 93.69 per cent in April 2026 from 93.26 per cent in March 2026.
Separately, TRAI data showed that Airtel, Jio and Vi gained 0.34 million, 0.14 million and 0.007 million wireline users, increasing their landline user base to 11.76 million, 15.37 million and 0.86 million respectively during April 2026. Meanwhile, BSNL added 0.003 million users.
Further, the month of April 2026 witnessed Airtel and Jio widening its wireless customer market share to 37.81 per cent and 39.25 per cent, up from 37.74 per cent and 39.21 per cent respectively in the previous month. Furthermore, Vi, and BSNL narrowed its customer base to 15.61 per cent and 7.34 per cent as against 15.68 per cent and 7.31 per cent in March 2026.
Furthermore, in the month of April 2026, about 14.74 million subscribers submitted their requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 1,296.55 million at the end of March 2026 to 1,311.29 million at the end of April 2026, since implementation of MNP.
