The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its independent drive test (IDT) findings for the Wayanad, Kerala licensed service area (LSA), covering extensive city/highway routes during the month of October 2025. The drive tests, conducted under the supervision of the TRAI regional office, Bengaluru, were designed to capture real-world mobile network performance across diverse usage environments including urban zones, institutional and tourist hotspots, public transport hubs, and high-speed corridors.

Between October 14, 2025 to October 17, 2025, TRAI teams conducted detailed tests across 251.6 kilometres (km) of city drive, eight hotspots, 7.0 kms walk test and 265.3 kms of highway drive. Technologies evaluated included 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, reflecting the service experience of users across multiple handset capabilities. The findings of IDT have been intimated to all the telecom service providers (TSPs) concerned for further necessary action.

In the city, Bharti Airtel, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Reliance Jio (Jio) and Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) had 87.59 per cent, 86.98 per cent, 92.19 per cent and 92.29 per cent call setup success rate while a call setup time of 1.41, 2.54, 0.69 and 1.01 seconds respectively in Auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G). The telcos had a drop call rate of 0.21 per cent, 5.20 per cent, 1.01 per cent and 1.22 per cent respectively in auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G) while a silence call rate of 1.58 per cent, 3.24 per cent, 1.89 per cent and 2.79 per cent respectively in packet switched network (4G/5G). the average mean opinion score stood at 3.96, 2.86, 3.82 and 4.48 respectively.

Further, average download speed of Airtel (5G/4G/2G) was 104.79 Mbps, BSNL (4G/3G/2G) was 7.34 Mbps, Jio (5G/4G) was 272.45 Mbps and Vi (4G/2G) was 17.73 Mbps. Meanwhile, the average upload speed of Airtel (5G/4G/2G) was 16.71 Mbps, BSNL (4G/3G/2G) was 4.64 Mbps, Jio (5G/4G) was 21.79 Mbps and Vi (4G/2G) was 12.19 Mbps. Airtel, BSNL, Jio and Vi 50th percentile latency stood at 41.31 ms, 47.63 ms, 39.42 ms, 32.82 ms respectively.

In Wayanad, the assessment included high-density neighbourhoods like Pozhuthana, Padinjarathara, Thariyode, Vengapally, Edavaka, Mananthavady, Kenichira, Batheri, Sultan Bathery, Krishnagiri, Meenangadi, Muttil North, Ambalavayal, Manjapaara, Kalpetta and Meppadi etc.
