The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its independent drive test (IDT) findings for the Hubballi, Karnataka licensed service area (LSA), covering extensive city/highway routes during the month of August 2025. The drive tests, conducted under the supervision of the TRAI regional office, Bengaluru, were designed to capture real-world mobile network performance across diverse usage environments including urban zones, institutional hotspots, public transport hubs, and high-speed corridors. Drive tests were conducted to assess the quality of (like 2G/ 3G/ 4G/ 5G) for voice and data service provided by cellular mobile telephone service providers namely Bharti Airtel Limited, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi), and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)/ Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), for voice and data services in August 2025. The observations presented in drive test reports represent the performance of the service providers on the area/ route under test on the day/time of conducting the drive test.
The key performance indicators (KPIs) for voice as well as data service assessed for the networks of all telecom service providers operating in the region included call setup success rate, drop call rate, speech quality using mean opinion score (MOS), downlink and uplink packet (voice) drop rate, call silence rate and coverage-signal strength, under voice services. Meanwhile, data throughput (downlink and uplink both), packet drop rate (downlink and uplink), video streaming delay, latency and jitter, under data services were considered.
In the area, Airtel, BSNL, Jio and Vi had 93.30 per cent, 87.88 per cent, 99.64 per cent and 86.11 per cent call setup success rate while call setup time of 1.15, 1.93, 0.68 and 1.42 seconds respectively, both in auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G). Meanwhile, the telcos had a drop call rate of 1.66 per cent, 4.96 per cent, 0.71 per cent and 2.09 per cent in auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G) while silence call rate 1.69 per cent, 5.76 per cent, 4.95 per cent and 6.18 per cent respectively in packet switched network (4G/5G). their average MOS stood at 3.94, 3.02, 3.75 and 3.78 respectively.
Further, the average download speed of Airtel (5G/4G/2G) was 141.74 Mbps, BSNL (4G/3G/2G) 1.33 Mbps, Jio (5G/4G) 244.78 Mbps, and Vi (4G/2G) 20.62 Mbps. The average upload speed was 40.25 Mbps for Airtel, 2.70 Mbps for BSNL, 25.41 Mbps for Jio, and 13.62 Mbps for Vi. The 50th percentile latency recorded was 23.80 milliseconds (ms) for Airtel, 51.00 ms for BSNL, 22.80 ms for Jio, and 27.60 ms for Vi.
