The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its independent drive test (IDT) findings for Kolkata licensed service area (LSA), covering extensive city routes of Kolkata telecom district (TD) and parts of 24 Parganas (North and South) Districts in Kolkata TD in the month of November 2025. The drive tests, conducted under the supervision of the TRAI Regional Office, Kolkata, were designed to capture real-world mobile network performance across diverse usage environments- urban zones, institutional hotspots, business areas, residential areas etc.

Between November 10, 2025 and November 15, 2025, TRAI teams conduced detailed tests in the state of West Bengal covering 308.1 kilometre (km) of city drive test, 10 hotspot locations and 2.6 km of walk test. Technologies evaluated included 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, reflecting the service experience of users across multiple handset capabilities.

Key parameters assessed include call setup success rate, drop call rate, call setup time, call silence rate, speech quality, coverage, download/upload throughput, latency, jitter, packet drop rate, and video streaming delay.

As per the test, Bharti Airtel, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Reliance Jio (Jio) and Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) had call setup success rate of 99.81 per cent, 96.53 per cent, 100 per cent and 99.63 per cent and a call setup time of 0.73, 3, 0.56 and 0.95 seconds respectively in auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G). Meanwhile, their drop call rate stood at 0.19 per cent, 2.46 per cent, 0 per cent and 0.37 per cent respectively in auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G). Further, the telcos had a silence call rate of 1.79 per cent, 4.67 per cent, 1.27 per cent and 1.53 per cent in packet switched network (5G/4G) and an average mean opinion score of 4.04, 3.38, 3.89 and 4.33 respectively.

Furthermore, the average download speed of Airtel (5G/4G) was 244.05 Mbps, BSNL (4G/3G/2G) was 4.30 Mbps, Jio (5G/4G) was 273.82 Mbps and Vi (4G/2G) is 36.08 Mbps while their average upload speed was 43.96 Mbps, 4.71 Mbps, 32.98 Mbps and 12.34 Mbps respectively. In addition, their 50th percentile latency stood at 42.20 ms, 56.33 ms, 31.15 ms, 61.96 ms respectively.
