The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a consultation paper on ‘Introduction of Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) in Telecommunication Networks.’

The paper aims to seek views to devise a mechanism to display the details of a phone caller on the call receiver’s mobile screen. As per TRAI, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had requested it to explore telecom network readiness for the mechanism. Through the paper, TRAI is also looking at different business models for providing CNAP facilities.

The regulator has invited public comments on the paper by December 27, 2022 and counter comments by January 10, 2023.
