The Ministry of Communications has informed the parliament that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has received over 26,400 complaints against telecom companies during January-November 2019.

Additionally, around 44,890 similar complaints have been received by the government during the 11-month period.

To this end, the government is considering setting up a telecom ombudsman for addressing consumer grievances.

Meanwhile, the government has stated that over 160,000 mobile towers were added across the country during December 2015 to November 2019. Further, around 1,557,000 additional base transceiver stations for 2G/3G/4G-LTE services were added during April 2014 to November 2019. Also, 167,000 mobile towers were added during the December 2015 to November 2019 period.

The ministry also added that the standards for International Mobile Telecommunications 2020 are being finalised.
