The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released an information paper about the possible health hazards and issues from exposure to Electro Magnetic Field (EMF) radiations emitted by mobile phones and towers.

These radiations are harmful to human beings, who are exposed to them on a daily basis through various sources. It may also cause cancer or alter the DNA in living beings.

However, TRAI stated that in the absence of any scientific foundation, the regulation/standard regarding EMF radiations could be assailed as arbitrary. The regulator added that this could end up limiting the growth of industry merely based on a presumption. TRAI thus suggested that more studies have to be undertaken, especially in the India context. And until those studies are completed and results are validated, a careful approach should be adopted in dealing with issues related to EMF radiation.
