Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has noted that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) proposal on the 5G spectrum is expected to come out by March 2022. This will be followed by spectrum auction that will be held for the roll-out of 5G services.
Meanwhile, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is simultaneously working on other auction-related processes to begin the spectrum auction at the earliest.
TRAI has floated a consultation paper on 5G spectrum auction to examine the perspective on intrigued companies and different partners to fix cost and conditions for allotment of the radiowaves. The controller responsible will forward its proposal to the DoT, which will thereafter seek the approval of higher authorities before conducting the auction.
