TRAI may recommend an amendment in the service providers’ licence conditions to permit the sharing of active infrastructure such as optic and feeder fibre cables, radio links, network elements, backhaul, antenna and transmission equipment. According to TRAI, this will enable operators to provide mobile services to their subscribers wherever their own network signal is not available. It will also help them increase their coverage area and quality of service with almost no additional expenditure. However, operators have opposed TRAI’s proposal to make infrastructure sharing mandatory as part of the licence agreement.
