The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reportedly indicated that 700 MHz of spectrum may be allocated to telecom operators on a priority basis.
J.S. Sarma, chairman, TRAI, said that given that a part of 700 MHz of spectrum is available, the regulator plans to examine the feasibility of giving out this spectrum first to operators who do not have 800 or 900 Mhz spectrum.
He said that allocation of this spectrum will be done through an auction and players not holding spectrum in others bands will be given priority. After the auction, the rest of the band will be opened for players who will have to pay a price equivalent to the amount determined through the auction.
