TRAI has reportedly disallowed Bharti Airtel from levying any extra charges on subscribers. TRAI had earlier asked Bharti and Vodafone Essar to justify their decision to increase their call and SMS rates. According to Bharti, the company was charging higher tariffs in order to rectify the defects in its mobile network.
However, TRAI has stated that all charges owing to rectification and repair, as well as visiting charges for interruption in mobile services should be borne by the service provider and not the consumer. Consequently, the regulator has asked Bharti to refund the extra amount charged.
