TRAI has released a paper on “Mobile Telephone Tariff Comparison T –? Preliminary Results”, which is aimed at removing the confusion over multiple tariff plans for cellular services. Through this paper, TRAI has tried to address the issue of “comparison shopping” which allows telecom users to make informed choices of tariff plans that suit their requirement and affordability. The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has developed webenabled application software that can facilitate consumers in identifying the most competitive tariffs. In the paper, TERI has identified five of the most competitive tariffs for each of the 12 usage patterns that it found among consumers after carrying out various surveys. This has been done separately for prepaid and post-paid schemes.
