TRAI has proposed to spin off the USO Fund administration as an independent body to make it more effective in taking telecom services to the rural areas.

TRAI has proposed to spin off the USO Fund administration as an independent body to make it more effective in taking telecom services to the rural areas. At present, the USO Fund is administered as a unit of DoT, as a result of which the funds accruing to thefund through the levy have to be routed through the government’s budgetary process.
