TRAI has asked the government for a new methodology for spectrum allocation to existing operators after the 3G spectrum auctions.

TRAI has pointed out that for an operator having both 2G and 3G spectrums, it will not be possible to segregate users based on the technology platforms they use. Consequently, it will be difficult to allot additional 2G spectrum to such a service provider on the subscriber base criterion. In such a scenario, the authority has recommended that this aspect be referred to the committee constituted by DoT to look into the issue of spectrum allocation criteria.
