TRAI has also asked DoT to examine the revenues reported by Bharti Airtel in the long distance telephony segment. The regulator has noted a shift in the company’s revenues to the long distance segment, which attracts only 6 per cent licence fee, as against a maximum of 10 per cent in the mobile segment. TRAI has stated that while Airtel’s income from the long distance business has increased, there has been no proportional increase in minutes of usage.
