TRAI has finalised its recommendations on the spectrum policy and will be making these public soon. GSM and CDMA-based mobile service providers have been vying for the 1900 MHz spectrum band, saying this was crucial for service expansion. GSM operators, including Bharti, Hutchison and Idea Cellular, have already applied for 3G licences and have sought the 1900 band spectrum. Meanwhile, CDMA operators like Reliance Infocomm and Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) have said that this particular band is crucial for their network expansion.
