The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the deadline for submitting comments on its consultation paper on transparency in publishing of tariff offers.

Stakeholders can now submit comments on the paper by January 23, 2020 and counter-comments by February 6, 2020.

According to the TRAI, the deadline has been extended as stakeholders had sought extension of time for sending their comments on the consultation paper.

However, no further request for extension would be entertained, the TRAI said.

Earlier in November 2019, the TRAI had floated a consultation paper on ways to boost transparency levels in all tariff-related communications of phone companies aiming consumer protection. Through the consultation paper, the TRAI has sought stakeholder views on certain issues like the need for telcos to give a declaration regarding the hidden terms and conditions in a tariff offering filed with the regulator; requirement of standard template for publication of tariffs, and whether telcos should be mandated to publish details of all plans, including those not on offer but still active.
