The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the last date for submission of comments on “Draft Regulation on Review of the Quality of Service (Code of Practice for Metering and Billing Accuracy) Regulations, 2023” and draft guidelines for this regulation. The deadline for submitting comments has been extended by three weeks to May 1, 2023.

The accuracy of metering and billing of telecom services has always been the prime focus of the TRAI in order to protect consumer interests, as the regulator asks service providers to use more advanced, robust and scalable IT products for the billing and other services. In the draft, TRAI also suggested that all the service providers get their metering and billing systems with their respective licensed service areas (LSAs), audited once every financial year for access services. In turn, the TRAI will enlist auditors to conduct the audits as provisions for QoS Regulation, 2023.
