The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed telcos to disconnect all the telecom resources given by them to any entity which is found to be misusing its bulk connections for making spam calls and blacklist it for a period of two years.

TRAI mentioned that the telcos should also share the information of any such entity with other operators, so that they can also disconnect resources of the entity and blacklist it for two years. This move aims to curtail the problem to a good extent as the blacklisted entity will now not be able to get a connection from other telcos.

Further, TRAI has asked the telcos to not deliver any message which contain uniform resource locator (URLs) or android application package (APKs) that are not whitelisted from September 1, 2024, in a bid to curtail online scam. Meanwhile, the technical implementation of entity and telemarketer chain binding for ensuring traceability of the message flow should be completed by telcos by October 31, 2024.
