The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked operators to disconnect mobile numbers ported from Loop Telecom’s network.

TRAI has directed Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, Tata Teleservices (TTSL), Reliance Communications and Aircel to disconnect all the mobile numbers which were transferred to them from Loop Telecom’s network through the mobile number portability service, within 48 hours.

Additionally, the regulator has asked these operators to submit a compliance report to it within the next 15 days.

TRAI’s directive has come over a petition filed by Loop Telecom, which stated that about 5,923 mobile numbers were ported out illegally from its network.

Loop Telecom’s 21 licences were also among the 122 2G licences cancelled by the Supreme Court in February 2012. Following the Supreme Court’s order, the operator had said that it would shut down its operations in India.

According to Loop Telecom, it never activated these numbers and the port-out by the other operators appeared to be a result of fraudulent activity.
