The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reportedly rejected the latest demand by telecom operators to expedite the process of fixing a floor price for tariffs by holding the open house discussions online.

As per TRAI, it may be a better option that any further discussion on the issue is held after the lockdown is completely lifted and normalcy is restored. TRAI added that the authority is conscious of its mandate, which is to protect the interests of consumers as well as to promote orderly growth of the sector.

Recently, telcos had asked the TRAI to speed up the process to fix a minimum tariff for services. To this end, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), had also written to the sector regulator, urging for an open house on the matter urgently.
