The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed three operators to discontinue sending unsolicited text messages to consumers.
TRAI has directed Aircel, Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) to take immediate measures to bar unauthorised telemarketers from sending commercial text messages on their network. According to TRAI, the three operators were selling bulk text messages to unregistered telemarketers at low prices.
Currently, TRAI disconnects the mobile number being used by unauthorised telemarketers on receiving the first complaint. Additionally, it can blacklist the company for two years.
