The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has appointed Ritu Ranjan Mittar and Maruthi Prasad Tangirala as whole-time members. They have been appointed for a tenure of three years, or till the age of 65 years, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest.
Ritu Ranjan Mittar, a former head and advisor, Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), brings more than three decades of expertise to his new role. A 1985 batch Indian Telecommunications Service (ITS) officer, Mittar has held various key positions in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Prior to his appointment at TRAI, he served as senior deputy director general and head of TEC, and was also the deputy director general (DDG) for Telecom Security in TEC New Delhi.
Meanwhile, Maruthi Prasad Tangirala (Indian Post and Telecommunication Accounts and Finance Service, 1990) is additional secretary, Department of Financial Services. He has previously worked in DoT, TRAI, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). His experience spans regulatory frameworks, policy implementation, and strategic decision-making.
