After over two years of deliberations, Thiruvananthapuram city corporation has lowered the pole rent charged from telecom companies from Rs 5,000 to Rs 500.

The move comes after a council meeting of the corporation held recently wherein the rate was decided in line with other civic bodies. Earlier, the revenue wing had recommended Rs 1,000 as rent while considering the application of a private firm.

The rent of Rs 500 would be applicable to all telecom companies and this will be collected with retrospective effect as the notice was issued to certain firms two years ago.

The corporation has also fixed road cutting charge at Rs 3,399.62 per square metre. The charge would be Rs 6,020.78 per square metre for concrete roads and Rs 4,094.35 per square metre for interlock cutting.

As per the order, the local bodies may collect a one-time fee of Rs 75,000 per kilometre and road restoration charges as prescribed by the Public Works Department.
