According to the data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) the total telecom subscriber base stood at 921.47 million at the end of November 2012.

In comparison at the end of October 2012, the total telecom subscriber base stood at 935.18 million. The operators lost about 13 million subscribers in the month of November due to large-scale disconnection of inactive users by the operators.

As per the TRAI data, all the operators barring Reliance Communications, Loop Telecom and HFCL lost users in the month of November. Reliance Communications added 108,990 new users in the month of November to take its user base to 134.11 million while Loop added 20,805 with a subscriber base of 3 million users.

The total wireless subscriber base has declined by 1.51 per cent from 904.23 million at the end of October 2012 to 890.60 million at the end of November 2012. Tata Teleservices Limited lost highest number of users.  It lost 4.23 million users and the operator?s total subscriber base at the end of November 2012 stood at 72.51 million. Bharti Airtel lost 2.80 million users and its user base for the period under consideration stood at183.61 million users. Vodafone lost 2.38 million users with a subscriber base of 150.76 users. Idea Cellular and Aircel lost 1.56 million users and 1.46 million users with a subscriber base of 114.14 million and 65.32 million, respectively. Uninor lost 437,915 subscribers.

As per the TRAI data, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Nigam Limited (MTNL) lost 81,021 and 1,813 users with a subscriber base of 99.90 million and 5.30 million, respectively.

As per TRAI, the wireline subscriber base declined from 30.95 million at the end of October 2012 to 30.87 million at the end of November 2012. During November, the share of urban wireless subscribers decreased from 62.68 per cent to 62.19 per cent whereas share of rural wireless subscribers has increased from 37.32 per cent to 37.81 per cent. The overall wireless tele-density in the country increased to 73.02 at the end of November. Private operators have 88.19 per cent of the wireless market share (based on subscriber base) whereas BSNL and MTNL, have 11.81 per cent market share.

Also, the total broadband subscriber base increased from 14.81 million at the end of October 2012 to 14.88 million at the end of November 2012, registering a monthly growth of 0.47 per cent.
