The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is planning to issue a consultation paper on 4G services. The paper will look into issues such as the spectrum band to be allotted to operators along with the number of blocks to be made available to each. It will also address issues related to pricing of spectrum as well as licensing. The move comes at a time when the government is facing several issues in auctioning 3G spectrum. According to TRAI, India has been lagging behind other countries in adopting nextgeneration mobile services and, therefore, the policy-making process around 4G should begin now. 3G spectrum auctions have been facing prolonged delays, and the same should not happen in the case of 4G.
