The Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC), DoT’s technical division, has recommended that mobile handset manufacturers as well as importers should get handsets tested for radiation before their launch.

A TEC committee set up to study the issues related to implementation of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection guidelines has stated that manufacturers will be required to provide two random samples of each model being sold in India to TEC for monitoring prior to the launch. The move will help in monitoring the compliance with the specific absorption rate, which shows the amount of radio waves absorbed by the body while using a mobile phone.
