According to the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the rural subscriber base in the country at the end of August 2013 stood at 271.21 million. Operators added 0.24 million new rural subscribers in the period under review.

As per the industry association, Bharti Airtel had the maximum number of rural subscribers – 86.69 million-in August 2013. The operator added 0.39 million customers, which was the highest number in the period under review.

Further, circle-wise, the Uttar Pradesh (East) service area had the maximum number of rural subscribers – 28.21 million in August 2013. State-wise, Gujarat witnessed the maximum addition of rural subscribers – 496,087-in August 2013.
