The release of spectrum by the defence forces has reportedly been delayed from June 2008 to the year end. Reportedly, the defence forces are yet to identify locations for an alternative optic fibre network and this is likely to delay the process of spectrum release. At present, of the 162 sites to be developed for the alternative network, only 50 have been completed. The defence services were expected to vacate 45 MHz of spectrum (including 25 MHz for 3G deployment) for mobile services once they shifted a part of their communication needs from a wireless to an alternative wireline network.
