According to news reports, Idea Cellular has filed an affidavit with the Supreme Court stating that any reduction in the reserve price for unsold spectrum should also be applicable to operators who have won spectrum in the recently concluded 2G spectrum auction.

The affidavit by the operator follows Kapil Sibal, Minister for Communication and IT stating that the government will review the base price of unsold spectrums given that both analysts and bidders termed the base price for 2G spectrum too high.

According to the operator, in case the government decides to auction off unsold spectrum in the 1800 MHz band, then operators winning spectrum in the recently held 2G spectrum auction should benefit from a lower base price for the spectrum.

Idea Cellular won spectrum in seven circles for Rs 20.31 billion in the recently concluded spectrum auction. Since the government did not receive any bids for four circles, it has decided to hold a second round of auctions before March 2013.
