According to a Department of Telecommunications (DoT) document, the new telecom policy is likely to be delayed until June 2012, say news reports.
The policy was announced in October 2011 by Kapil Sibal, Minister of Telecommunications and IT, who had said that the new policy would be ready after incorporating the comments of all stakeholders by end-2011.
According to an official statement, the new policy is likely to be approved by June 2012. It also stated that the total number of telephone connections stood at 914.60 million as on October 31, 2011, against a target of 600 million at the end of March 2012.
