According to a report published by GSM Association, along with the consulting firm A.T. Kearney, the mobile industry globally is expected to invest $ 1.1 trillion by 2017. And the ecosystem supporting mobile industry is expected to employ 10 million people globally.

As per the report titled, ?The Mobile Economy 2013? at the end of 2012, the mobile connections worldwide stood at 6.8 billion and are expected to increase to 9.7 billion by the end of 2017. Further, out of 6.8 billion mobile connections in 2012, the high speed internet compatible mobile phone accounted for 1.6 billion of the total mobile connections. By 2017 the high speed internet compatible mobile phone will increase to 5.1 billion, including 920 million long term evolution (LTE) connections.

As per the data provided in the report, mobile subscriber penetration globally stood at 45 per cent while mobile connection penetration stood at 94 per cent. According to GSM Association, the variance between the number of mobile subscribers and the number of mobile connections is on account of multiple SIM ownership as well as inactive SIMs.
