According to a study by Newzoo and OneSky, the Indian mobile gaming market, one of the fastest expanding markets in the world, is expected to grow to $571.6 million by 2016. The mobile gaming market in the country is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 134.5 per cent between 2013 and 2016.
The growth in the Indian mobile gaming market has been driven by India?s fast expanding base of 131.7 million mobile phones (smartphones and tablets) gamers coupled with the country?s strong mobile infrastructure.
The findings of the study indicate that out of the total 131.7 million mobile gamers in India in 2014, only 23.7 million, or 18 per cent of the gamers paid for the content. This compares with 27.1 per cent of mobile gamers in Russia, 35.4 per cent in Brazil and 30.2 per cent in China who paid for the gaming content.
Further, the average revenue per user of mobile gamers in India is $0.78, which is significantly lower than the global average. The study concludes that connectivity and payment issues due to low penetration of credit cards could affect revenue growth in the Indian mobile gaming market.
