The Ministry of Finance has been unable to take any conclusive decision on the scheduling of 3G spectrum auctions. Earlier, the Ministry of Law had suggested postponing spectrum auctions to fiscal year 2010-11, when spectrum will actually be available for commercial use. However, rescheduling the auction is likely to have an adverse impact on the government’s fiscal deficit, currently pegged at 6.8 per cent of the GDP, which it is planning to clear through the money raised from the spectrum sale.
