The Ministry of Finance has asked the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to expedite the auction of wireless broadband spectrum. In a written correspondence dated July 8, the finance ministry has asked DoT to immediately auction one block of airwaves which can be used by communication firms for wireless data services.
This sale is expected to provide the government with about Rs 130 billion, in line with the budget estimate for the fiscal.
This is the second time the finance ministry has approached DoT on this subject. Earlier, it wanted DoT to identify both 3G and broadband wireless access spectrum for auctioning.
