According to Gartner, the telecommunications services market in India comprising of fixed and mobile, data and voice services is expected to reach $30 billion in 2014.
The devices market, which includes mobile phones, PCs, tablets and printers is expected to be worth $23.5 billion in 2014 witnessing a growth rate of 6 per cent over 2013. IT services will be the fastest growing segment in the telecom industry and will reach $11.2 billion in 2014, whereas, software segment will reach $4.1 billion.
Gartner states that the device market in India will continue to witness encouraging growth. The revenue from the sales of mobile phones will reach $26 billion in 2017. In addition, by 2017, new device categories (mobile phones, tablets, and ultra-mobile PCs) will represent more than 80 per cent of the total device spending in the country. Gartner also forecasts that by 2017, nearly half of first-time computer purchases will be a tablet.
Going forward, Gartner expects increasing adoption of mobility applications and cloud services to drive the growth in the Indian telecom sector.
