According to Gartner, in the fourth quarter of 2013, the combined desk-based and mobile PC market in India witnessed a decline of 19.9 per cent over the corresponding quarter in 2012. For the period under review, the combined desk-based and mobile PC units stood at 1.96 million.

The research firm points out that consumers accounted for 49 per cent of the total PC sales in the fourth quarter of 2013. In the absence of government orders in the quarter, the Indian PC market declined with the enterprises deferring their purchases. White boxes (including parallel imports), which accounted for 44 per cent of the overall desktop market, reported a decline of 10 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2013 in comparison to the corresponding quarter in 2012. In the fourth quarter of 2013, mobile PCs witnessed a year-on-year growth of 27 per cent.

Gartner states that both Dell and HP witnessed strong growth in the fourth quarter of 2014. Dell reported 49 per cent year over year growth in its market share with higher sales of its notebooks. Meanwhile, HP?s market share in the consumer segment in the fourth quarter of 2013 grew by 3 per cent.
