According to a study by research and analyst firm Gartner, the Indian application software market is expected to touch $227 in 2012.
The growth in the Indian application software market will be driven by evolving software delivery models, new development methodologies, emerging mobile application development and open source software. Other emerging technologies like cloud, mobility and social computing will also contribute to increase in spending on the application development in the country.
Gartner estimates that by 2015 about 90 per cent of large, mainstream enterprises and government agencies will use some aspect of cloud computing. The study predicts that by 2015, the mobile advertising projects targeting smart phones and tablets will outnumber native personal computer projects by a ratio of 4:1. As per the study emerging mobile applications, systems and devices are transforming the application development space rapidly. These three areas top the priorities of the chief information officers (CIOs) at the enterprise level. The findings of the study show that by 2013, CIOs expect more than
20 per cent of their employees to use tablets instead of laptops, speeding up the process of change as applications evolve to cater to the requirements of the users adopting new devices.
The research firm expects open source software to continue to broaden its presence and create pressure on market leaders over a period of three to five years. At the end of 2017 about 70 per cent of new enterprise Java applications will be deployed on an open source Java application server.
