The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has released GSM subscriber data for July 2013.

According to the industry association, the total GSM subscriber base in July 2013 stood at 672.63 million, a 0.22 per cent increase over the previous month. Over 1.49 million customers were added in the period under consideration.

Operator-wise, Bharti Airtel led the pecking order, with 191.39 million customers. It was followed by Vodafone India (154.42 million), Idea Cellular (125.27 million), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) (97.17 million) and Aircel (61.73 million). Aircel added the most customers in the period under consideration-0.76 million.

In the period under review, Bharti Airtel had a subscriber market share of 28.45 per cent, Vodafone 22.96 per cent, Idea Cellular 18.62 per cent, BSNL 14.45 per cent and Aircel 9.18 per cent.

Circle-wise, the Uttar Pradesh (East) service area had the maximum number of GSM customers-59.25 million-in July 2013. Overall, category B circles accounted for 39.34 per cent of the GSM subscriber base, followed by category A (34.94 per cent), metros (11.01 per cent) and category C circles (14.71 per cent).
