The government plans to establish two separate regulatory agencies for coordinating all telecom security-related initiatives to protect India?s communication networks from possible cyber attacks.
The Telecom Commission is likely clear the proposal for setting-up a Telecom Security Directorate (TSD) and a National Telecom Network Security Coordination Board (NTNSCB) for framing standards and procedures for testing telecom network gear and monitoring implementation of the telecom security policy.
At present, issues regarding the security of the country?s telecom networks are handled by multiple agencies such as The Ministry of Communications and IT and the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office.
