The government has appointed a committee headed by the National Knowledge Commission’s chairman Sam Pitroda to expedite the 3G spectrum auction by resolving the pending spectrum issues between the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the defence ministry. One of the key issues relates to DoT’s demand for frequency bands between 1920 MHz and 1980 MHz for the upcoming 3G auctions, to which the defence ministry has stated that it could not do so since frequency in that band was already in use by the armed forces. The defence ministry is willing to give frequency between 1950 MHz and 1970 MHz.
