The government has announced guidelines for the auction and allotment of Wi-Max spectrum for broadband wireless access (BWA) services. According to the guidelines, both existing unified access service licence holders and Category A and B internet service providers will be eligible to bid for BWA spectrum, which will be auctioned in the 2.5 and 2.3 GHz bands. Each successful bidder can get up to 20 MHz of spectrum in a service area. The reserve price for BWA spectrum will be 25 per cent of the 3G reserve price.
