The government has appointed MF Farooqui as the secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
His appointment has come over as a result of the retirement of the current secretary, DoT, R.Chandrasekhar.
Prior to his current assignment, Farooqui was serving as secretary, Department of Heavy Industry. He also held the post of special secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
Over the years, he has worked as principal secretary, Industries Department, the Government of Tamil Nadu and as joint secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. In the 1990s, Farooqui also served as Consul General of India in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He has also worked as chief executive and member secretary of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.
