According to Infonetics Research, the global broadband aggregation market (digital subscriber line, passive optical network (PON), ethernet and fibre to the home – FTTH) stood at $1.9 billion in the first quarter of 2014.

Further, the market was led by Huawei, which was closely followed by Alcatel-Lucent in the second place. The revenue difference between Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei stood at $1 million.

The research firm states that the gigabit-capable passive optical networks (GPON) equipment revenue grew by 44 per cent in the first quarter of 2014. Continued FTTH spending in China and Europe, the Middle East and Africa was the key growth driver for GPON equipment revenue for the quarter under review. Within EMEA region, operators such as KPN, Belgacom, Turk Telecom, and Deutsche Telekom, among others are deploying large scale very-high-bit-rate digital subscriber line 2 projects. Meanwhile, operators in Russia and Middle East are making significant investments in FTTH projects.
