The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) may invoke bank guarantees submitted by Bharti Airtel.
DoT has written to banks in this regard since Bharti Airtel has not paid a penalty of Rs 3.5 billion imposed on it for offering 3G services through roaming pacts in circles where it does not hold 3G licence.
Earlier, DoT had imposed a fine of Rs 3.5 billion on the operator for violating terms and conditions under the unified licences services in circles comprising Haryana, Maharashtra, UP (East), Kolkata, Gujarat, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.
